British-born Amanda Masters moved to the United States in her early twenties
as a successful model. Masters then turned her eclectic eye and globetrotting style
to interiors. Learning the profession by trial and error, the self-taught talent quickly
garnered a sleek clientele of successful Hollywood producers directors and actors.
Much of Masters bold and eclectic style stems from her modeling days and from
travelling as a child through Europe and North Africa.
Masters works in partnership with her American property-developer
husband, Justin Klentner. The couple met while working together in New York and
have been together ever since, building and designing spec properties in Los Angeles
and high end residential interiors in New York, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.
The couple now live in Hollywood with their three children and are developing
a commercial property in Santa Monica and a 40-acre avocado farm in Santa Barbara.
High-profile projects have included the glossy Soho House pop up Oscar
villa in Los Angeles, and daring displays at lingerie lair Coco de Mer in
Los Angeles. These hyper-hip public spaces personify Masters design wit:
traditional Brit with a modern twist.
“I think my stamp is always in the proportions and the way I place furniture.
Everything is harmonious and comfortable, and there is always something slightly
bohemian and a kind of European edge in there somewhere. I like to put old things
with new things, antiques with modern things—whatever looks good.”
Masters is also a contributing editor to Santa Barbara Magazine
and a regular contributor House Beautiful.
